Engineered board is the deliberate choice over solid timber here: across this width it holds its shape through humidity rather than splitting or warping at the corners the way a solid-wood carcass eventually will. Vintage kilim is inset into both cabinet doors, laid across the top either side of a plain leather centre panel, and carried the full height of both flanks in three stacked bands. Every panel is framed by a leather band and held with a run of solid brass domed studs, in the manner of a trunk built to survive a sea crossing. The back is fully finished and bound in the same leather, with riveted corner caps.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThree graduated drawers run down the centre on soft-close runners that draw themselves shut the last inch. Either side, a full-height door swings open on concealed hinges to a single deep compartment — sized for platters and table linen, bar bottles, or files, depending on the room you put it in. Everything opens by thick leather strap handles riveted through solid brass mounts, sized to be pulled with a whole hand rather than two fingers.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach kilim panel is hand-cut from a vintage rug, so no two sideboards are alike. The exact pattern, colours and weave will differ from the photographs — that one-of-a-kind character is the essence of the piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe leather is finished with a light wax rather than a heavy pigment. It will mark, warm and deepen where hands fall most often, and the brass will dull to a soft amber.
