Around it runs a wide blush border of scrolling vine and slate palmettes, held between black guard lines and an outer band of slate.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is hand-tufted in 100% New Zealand wool. Each strand is punched through a cotton canvas backing with a hand-held tool, then the pile is sheared level by hand. The drawing is what makes it: every blossom and leaf is outlined in a single black line, and the stems that link them are tufted as their own narrow lines, so the pattern reads crisp rather than soft-edged. The colour is laid flat, without shading, which gives it a graphic, almost block-printed look, closer to a botanical print than to a dense traditional carpet.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSlate and blush is a quieter pairing than it sounds.
