Description
A chesterfield in the proper sense — arms and back at one height, rolled into a deep scroll, hand-buttoned throughout.
The line runs unbroken from arm to arm, over a seat built as one continuous tufted bench rather than loose cushions — the shape settled in British libraries and members' clubs a century and a half ago, and not much improved on since.
Underneath the hide is the part you never see and pay for anyway. The frame is kiln-dried hardwood, cut and fitted with mortise-and-tenon joinery rather than staples and glue — the joint that lets a sofa be re-covered in thirty years instead of thrown away. The seat rides on eight-way hand-tied coil springs, each knot tied by hand, which is why it gives evenly under weight instead of sagging into a hollow where people sit most.
Antique brass nailheads follow the arm fronts and the base in a close, even row, every one set by hand. The outside back is left plain in wide panels of hide — the quiet side of a piece that is elaborate at the front. It stands on hand-turned ball feet in dark timber, low and solid.
The leather is chestnut, with enough depth and pull-up to shift tone wherever the buttoning draws it tight. Along the seat and the tops of the arms it will darken and soften with the years. Being a natural hide, it carries its own record — shade variation, the odd scar or blemish from the animal's life. These are not flaws to be corrected; they are the difference between leather and a print of it.

Your piece is built after you order it rather than taken off a shelf, so we’d rather you check these measurements against your room first — made-to-order pieces can’t be returned or exchanged. Being handmade, finished dimensions may vary by a centimetre or two.

Materials
Built from carefully selected, natural materials — kiln-dried hardwoods, hand-spun textiles, cast metal and quarried stone, chosen to last for decades. Naturally occurring grain and tone variation is intrinsic to each handmade piece.
About our leather
Our leathers are genuine and natural. Because every hide is unique, colour, depth of tone, grain and surface character vary from piece to piece — and small marks, scars, wrinkles and uneven tones are part of the material, not defects. Your piece won’t look exactly like the photograph, and that individuality is the mark of real leather. Leather care
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and wipe spills at once with a clean, slightly damp cloth — never soak. Keep leather out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from direct heat to prevent fading and drying. Condition with a quality leather balm once or twice a year to keep the hide supple. Avoid solvents, polishes and abrasive cleaners.
Fabric care
Vacuum gently and regularly with an upholstery attachment to lift dust before it settles. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — press, don’t rub — and avoid soaking the fabric. Plump and rotate loose cushions so they wear evenly. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve colour, and have delicate weaves cleaned professionally rather than machine-washed.
Craftsmanship
Carved, joined and finished by hand in our workshops, passing through the hands of several craftspeople. Joinery is mortise-and-tenon — never glued shortcuts — so the piece is made to be kept and passed down.
Assembly & Installation
Most pieces arrive securely packed and ready to use. Some larger items may require simple assembly; installation assistance may be available depending on the product and your location — speak with a consultant to confirm before ordering.
Care
Dust timber with a soft dry cloth and treat with wax balm twice yearly. Vacuum upholstery gently and treat marks promptly. Keep out of prolonged direct sun to preserve the finish.
Delivery & Shipping
Made-to-order pieces are crafted in 6–8 weeks and then dispatched by safe, insured delivery, securely packed for transit. Assembly assistance is available on selected pieces. International freight is quoted at checkout.
