A quiet bed, which is harder to make than it sounds: a deep-buttoned headboard held in a solid wood frame, on legs that taper almost to a point, and not one line more than it needs.

The headboard is padded and buttoned in a diamond grid, each fabric-covered button drawn down into the padding so the cloth gathers into soft folds between them. It sits inside a broad, flat wood frame, stepped at its inner edge, whose sides run straight down to become the two rear legs. At 137 cm it stands tall enough to sit up against with a book, without crowding the room.

The footboard is kept low — a single framed panel between two square posts — and the side rails carry the same plain panel from head to foot, so the grain reads as one long, continuous line. All four legs are square in section, taper towards the floor and splay very slightly outward, which is what lets a bed this size stand so lightly. They also lift it clear of the floor, so it is easy to sweep beneath.

The headboard is upholstered in your choice of linen cotton or velvet, from ten linens and seventeen velvets, at the same price either way. It is shown in Oat linen, which keeps the room calm and lets the walnut do the talking; velvet takes the same buttoning with more depth and sheen. The back is closed with a neat dust cloth, so the bed is made to stand against a wall.

The frame and legs are solid wood. The broad panels are engineered board, which stays flat and true across a two-metre span where solid timber would cup and move with the seasons. The mattress rests on a solid wood slatted base that lets it breathe.

The wood is shown in Walnut, a deep brown stain that warms the grain without hiding it. It is also made in Natural Teak, a clear satin lacquer that lets the honey tone of the wood show through, and in Woodland, English Chestnut and Blackwood — and each of the four stains is also available in a wire-brushed Country texture, where the open grain stands proud under the hand.

Matching bedside tables can be added to the order: a single drawer with an antique brass knob over an open lower shelf, on the same square tapered legs, made in the same wood finish as your bed — 61 × 46 × 66 cm each, at ₹18,000 a table or ₹36,000 for the pair. At 66 cm they sit roughly level with the top of the mattress.

Wood and cloth are natural materials. Grain and tone vary from board to board and the finish mellows with years of daylight; linen softens and creases gently where it is leaned against, and velvet pile shifts colour with the light. Vacuum the headboard with a soft brush attachment, dust the wood with a dry cloth, and keep both out of prolonged direct sun.
