A colonial bed in the old sense — painted frame, fluted posts, turned finials, a sweep of cane at the head and foot — with a storage bed hidden underneath it.

The headboard rises to 145 cm under a moulded top rail that lifts through a shallow arch and steps down at each shoulder. From the pillows it reads as one continuous field of hand-woven rattan cane; behind, the cane is carried on three framed panels over a flat moulded base. The footboard repeats the arch at around 65 cm with a single broad cane panel, low enough to sit on while you pull on your shoes.

Four square posts hold the bed together. Each is fluted down its outer faces, capped with a turned ball finial and set on a turned foot — the details that make a bed like this look inherited rather than bought.

Beneath the side rails sit four cane-fronted drawers, two along each side, so both of you have storage without walking round the bed. They run on full-extension, soft-close runners: each drawer pulls all the way out so the back is as easy to reach as the front, and closes quietly on its own. A recessed pull is cut into the top of each front, with no hardware to break the painted line. At 55–60 cm deep and 30–32 cm high, they take winter quilts, spare linen and a season's worth of clothes.

The frame is kiln-dried solid hardwood, dried before it is cut so its joints hold through monsoon damp and dry winters; the drawer boxes are engineered board, which stays flat and true where solid timber would cup and stick. It is photographed in Antique Ivory — a soft painted finish rubbed back at the edges and mouldings — and can also be ordered in Natural Teak, a clear lacquer that shows the warm honey of the wood itself, or in four wood stains.

Rattan cane is a natural material and it behaves like one. Tone varies slightly from panel to panel and warms towards a deeper honey with daylight — against ivory paint, that slow warming is the point.
