A four-poster that frames the bed without closing it in. The canopy is an open rectangle of moulded rails, with nothing to hang and nothing to gather dust, so the room keeps its light and the bed still reads as the centre of it.

The four posts are turned and fluted by hand in solid wood, capped with urn finials and squared off at every joint with a carved block, the details of an old hill-station bungalow bed carried through at full height. Headboard and footboard share the same arched, stepped profile, each filled with hand-woven cane in its natural honey tone. The open weave is what lets a bed 225 cm tall stand in a room without feeling heavy: light passes through it, and the warm cane softens the frame around it.

A bed this tall still has to reach the bedroom, so it is built to come apart. The posts separate at the carved block just above the headboard and the canopy rails lift away, and the bed travels in sections that go up in a lift or a stairwell and are assembled in the room. The joints are hidden behind the blocks, so once it stands the posts read as single lengths.

The frame is shown hand-painted in a soft ivory, creamy rather than stark white, so it sits easily beside linen, jute and wooden floors. It is also made in nine wood finishes: Natural Teak, a clear satin lacquer that lets the honey tone of the wood show through, and Woodland, English Chestnut, Walnut and Blackwood, each smooth or in a brushed Country texture. The deeper tones set the honey cane off by contrast; the lighter ones let frame and cane read as one warm piece. Other paint colours can be made on request.

Order it with storage and two wide drawers slide out from beneath the side rail on soft-close runners, their fronts caned to match the headboard and their boxes built in plywood, which holds flat across the width where solid timber would move with the seasons. Without storage, the base stays clean and open between the turned feet.

Matching side tables can be added to the order: slim tables with a cane-fronted drawer over an open shelf, on turned solid wood legs, made in the same finish as your bed, 55 × 45 × 62 cm each, at ₹20,000 a table or ₹40,000 for the pair.

Cane is a natural material. It settles with use and deepens in colour over the years, and small variations in the weave are part of its character.
