Description

Cane, kilim and leather on a single carcass — three things Rajasthan has always worked in, held together with brass and set on tapered legs at the height where storage stops being storage and starts being furniture.

The front divides into three bays. Either side, a door framed in hand-cut leather carries a woven cane panel, so light passes through the front and what is inside stays half-seen rather than shut away. The doors close onto magnetic catches, are pulled by knurled brass knobs, and hang on exposed hinges — brass to match your metal finish wherever we can source them, polished nickel otherwise.

The centre bay is left open and divided by two fixed shelves into three compartments, deep enough for a set-top box, a router, a record player or a run of books, and open at the back so cables can pass through rather than coil in a cupboard.

The top is laid in leather panels with a vintage kilim inset running through the centre, stitched where the two meet. Both flanks carry full-height kilim in two panels, split by a leather batten driven with domed studs and capped in brass at every corner. The back is finished in suede nap inside a leather border, so the piece can stand away from a wall or divide a room without showing a raw face.

The carcass is engineered board rather than solid timber — a laminated panel holds true across a 120 cm span where solid boards cup and move with the seasons. It sits on a solid wood plinth with tapered legs, stained to your choice of finish.

Every kilim panel is cut by hand from a vintage rug, so the pattern, colours and weave on your piece will not match the photographs. The panels will not match each other either — the top inset and the flank panels are each cut from a different part of the rug. No two sideboards are alike. The leather is finished to show its natural markings and will soften and deepen in tone with use.

Worth measuring before you order
  • The space the piece will stand in, leaving room to walk around it
  • Doorways, corridors and any corner the piece has to turn
  • The stairwell or lift, if it isn’t a ground-floor delivery

Your piece is built after you order it rather than taken off a shelf, so we’d rather you check these measurements against your room first — made-to-order pieces can’t be returned or exchanged. Being handmade, finished dimensions may vary by a centimetre or two.

If these proportions aren’t quite right for your space, we can change them. Speak to a design consultant before you order and we’ll build the piece to your measurements.

Materials

Built from carefully selected, natural materials — kiln-dried hardwoods, hand-spun textiles, cast metal and quarried stone, chosen to last for decades. Naturally occurring grain and tone variation is intrinsic to each handmade piece.

Fabric care

Vacuum gently and regularly with an upholstery attachment to lift dust before it settles. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — press, don’t rub — and avoid soaking the fabric. Plump and rotate loose cushions so they wear evenly. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve colour, and have delicate weaves cleaned professionally rather than machine-washed.

Craftsmanship

Carved, joined and finished by hand in our workshops, passing through the hands of several craftspeople. Joinery is mortise-and-tenon — never glued shortcuts — so the piece is made to be kept and passed down.

Assembly & Installation

Most pieces arrive securely packed and ready to use. Some larger items may require simple assembly; installation assistance may be available depending on the product and your location — speak with a consultant to confirm before ordering.

Care

Dust timber with a soft dry cloth and treat with wax balm twice yearly. Vacuum upholstery gently and treat marks promptly. Keep out of prolonged direct sun to preserve the finish.
