Most sideboards put their pattern on the front. This one keeps the front quiet — five leather drawer faces, brass knobs, nothing else — and puts the vintage kilim where you actually meet it: laid into the top, and running full-height down both ends.

The top matters more than people expect. At 75 cm it is the surface you look down onto from standing height, every time you walk past. Here it is a kilim panel set into a leather-bound frame rather than a plain slab, so the piece has something to say before you ever open it.

Five drawers, split by what you actually store. Three shallow ones across the top take keys, chargers, candles, cutlery. The two below are deep enough for table linen, board games or a tangle of cables. The boxes are solid timber, running on soft-close steel runners, and they are finished inside rather than left raw.

Both flanks carry a full-height kilim panel under a studded leather band, with half-round brass caps at every corner — trunk hardware, used the way trunks used it, to protect the edges that actually take knocks.

The back is lined in suede. That sounds like a detail and is actually the whole point of the proportions: at 150 cm long and only 45 cm deep, with a back you can look at, this is a piece that stands free. Float it behind a sofa, run it down a hallway, or use it to divide a long room — it does not need a wall to hide against, and a standard 60 cm sideboard does.

The carcass is engineered board. On a case a metre and a half long that is the right decision, not a compromise: ply holds flat across that span where solid timber cups and moves with the season. The legs are solid wood, splayed and tapered off a plinth rail, which lifts the whole case clear of the floor and keeps 150 cm from reading as a wall.

Each kilim panel is hand-cut from a vintage rug, so no two sideboards are alike. The pattern, colours and weave will differ from these photographs, and the panels on one piece will not match one another. That is the point of it.
