A campaign chest stripped back to two materials: leather and brass. No timber shows anywhere on the piece — the hide is drawn over every face, the drawers included, and the only interruptions are the studs.

The carcass is engineered board clad entirely in thick, marbled hide, cut and stitched by hand with a twin needle so the seams read as a deliberate line rather than a join. Brass caps are riveted over all eight corners, top and bottom, the way a travelling trunk was armoured against the luggage van. Each of the two deep drawers runs on a concealed soft-close runner and is faced flush with the body, so the front reads as one continuous leather plane when closed.

The handles are cut from the same hide as the body and hung on solid brass mounts — recessed, so nothing protrudes to catch on a doorway or a passing leg. The back is finished in velvet suede rather than left raw, which means the piece can stand away from a wall without showing an unfinished face.

The leather is a pull-up hide with pronounced tonal movement: it lightens where it stretches over the corners and deepens in the recesses. Every hide takes the finish differently, so the marbling on your piece will not match the photographs. It will darken and settle with handling, and the brass will lose its factory brightness within the first year.

At 106 cm long and only 50 cm high it works as a coffee table, a bed-end chest or a hallway bench — low enough to sit on, long enough to hold a tray and a stack of books.
