Black leather, vintage kilim and a line of brass studs on every seam. Kumbhalgarh is the Sojat trunk table taken to its darkest register: the hide recedes into one quiet frame, and the kilim at each end becomes the whole of the colour in the room.

The top is laid in three panels: vintage kilim at each end, a wide panel of plain black leather down the centre. The centre is the working surface, flat and wipeable, so trays, books and cups sit on hide while the pattern stays where the eye falls. The front and back repeat the arrangement — kilim either side, leather in the middle — and both short ends are wrapped in kilim framed by a leather border, one carrying a stitched Art Avenue maker's tag.

There are two drawers, one in each long face, so the table works from whichever side of the room you approach it. Each is fronted in the same black leather with a saddle-stitched strap handle on brass plates, lined in velvet-nap suede, and runs on soft-close runners that draw it shut the last inch.

Every edge is bound in leather and every corner capped with a shaped, stitched leather cap set with hand-hammered domed studs — a run of studs also traces each seam. The carcass is engineered board, which keeps a 120 cm top flat under daily use; beneath it, a solid wood plinth on four tapered legs lifts the body just clear of the floor. The plinth is finished in Blackwood, the tone we pair with Onyx leather, so the whole piece reads as a single dark object.

Each kilim panel is hand-cut from an assorted vintage rug, so no two tables are alike — and the panels on a single table will not match each other either. The pattern, colours and weave on yours will differ from the photographs; that is the nature of the piece, not a variation to be corrected. The black leather is finished to show its natural character and will take on a soft sheen along the top where hands and cups land.
