Description

Just under seven feet of vintage kilim and distressed leather, stitched and studded like a campaign trunk stood on end — a wardrobe for the room that wants one piece to carry all the colour.

The upper half is a hanging cupboard behind two kilim-panelled doors. Each door is built in three bands: kilim above, a leather panel through the middle carrying a long brushed-brass bar pull, kilim again below, every seam edged in domed studs. The doors hang on brass hinges and open onto a suede-lined compartment with a full-width chrome hanging rail for jackets, shirts and dresses.

Beneath the doors sits a pair of leather-fronted drawers on soft-close runners, each pulled by a knurled brass knob — the place for knitwear, belts, watches and the small things a wardrobe otherwise swallows. Below them, an open bay divided by a studded shelf takes folded throws, shoes, baskets or a stack of books.

The top is laid with a single kilim panel framed in leather, with brass caps at every corner. Each flank is dressed floor to cornice in five stacked kilim panels, divided by stitched leather rails and lines of studs, so the piece reads as finished from every angle it is seen. The back is covered in suede nap with a leather border.

The carcass is engineered board rather than solid timber — a laminated panel stays true at this height, where solid boards would move with the seasons and let the doors drift. It stands on low solid wood feet that lift it just clear of the floor so you can clean beneath it. The feet are stained to match the leather you choose: walnut with Saddle, blackwood with Onyx.

Every kilim panel is cut by hand from a vintage rug, so the pattern, colours and weave on your piece will not match the photographs. The panels will not match each other either — the door fronts, the top and the ten flank panels are each cut from different parts of the rug. No two wardrobes are alike. The leather is finished to show its natural markings and will soften and deepen in tone with use.

Dimensions & Fit
Finished measurements
One Size 90 cm W × 50 cm D × 213 cm H35.4 in W × 19.7 in D × 83.9 in H
Worth measuring before you order
  • The space the piece will stand in, leaving room to walk around it
  • Doorways, corridors and any corner the piece has to turn
  • The stairwell or lift, if it isn’t a ground-floor delivery

Your piece is built after you order it rather than taken off a shelf, so we’d rather you check these measurements against your room first — made-to-order pieces can’t be returned or exchanged. Being handmade, finished dimensions may vary by a centimetre or two.

If these proportions aren’t quite right for your space, we can change them. Speak to a design consultant before you order and we’ll build the piece to your measurements.

Materials

Built from carefully selected, natural materials — kiln-dried hardwoods, hand-spun textiles, cast metal and quarried stone, chosen to last for decades. Naturally occurring grain and tone variation is intrinsic to each handmade piece.

Fabric care

Vacuum gently and regularly with an upholstery attachment to lift dust before it settles. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — press, don’t rub — and avoid soaking the fabric. Plump and rotate loose cushions so they wear evenly. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve colour, and have delicate weaves cleaned professionally rather than machine-washed.

Craftsmanship

Carved, joined and finished by hand in our workshops, passing through the hands of several craftspeople. Joinery is mortise-and-tenon — never glued shortcuts — so the piece is made to be kept and passed down.

Assembly & Installation

Most pieces arrive securely packed and ready to use. Some larger items may require simple assembly; installation assistance may be available depending on the product and your location — speak with a consultant to confirm before ordering.

Care

Dust timber with a soft dry cloth and treat with wax balm twice yearly. Vacuum upholstery gently and treat marks promptly. Keep out of prolonged direct sun to preserve the finish.

Made-to-order pieces are crafted in 6–8 weeks and then dispatched with complimentary, insured delivery across India, securely packed for transit. Assembly assistance is available on selected pieces.
